Senior Mechanical (Design) Engineer and Project Manager (SF, CA):
Swope Design Solutions is a rapidly growing mechanical engineering
firm located in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a Senior Mechanical
Design Engineer, you will be responsible for working with our clients
to step their products from early stage prototypes up to full scale
production. We pride ourselves on our ability to learn quickly and
adapt to the particular challenges a new project can bring, but the
skills below provide a strong base to succeed in our world.
Qualifications:
BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related
fields from an accredited university
5+ years of related work experience
5,000+ hours with an industrial CAD program. SolidWorks preferred.
Surfacing
Master model techniques
Document template setup and customization
Use keyboard shortcuts to model more efficiently
Demonstrated CAM proficiency with HSMWorks or other popular CAM package
Proficient with manufacturing and prototyping tools such as manual
mills, lathes, & CNC mills
Proficient with lab and prototype testing equipment such as force
stands and electronic sensing equipment
Thorough understanding of technical documentation and drawings,
medical device regulation a plus
Experience being responsible for and managing an entire project from
start to finish
Position Responsibilities:
Design & Engineering
Use best engineering practice and judgement to develop system-level
solutions for our clients
Collaborate with our team and the client to generate conceptual solutions
Prove out concepts with mathematical simulation or quick physical prototypes
Refine designs into comprehensive CAD structures
Build up and manage system level BoMs
Supervise the build process
Balance budgetary and machine shop availability to divide production
activities between in house and outside shops
Manage orders and vendor relationships for all purchased components
Help assemble and deliver finished systems, including hands on
fabrication as necessary
Provide detailed documentation and technical information for stages
of this process
Take the design to production
Produce production level drawings and process instructions
Implement system part numbers, design revisions, and engineering controls
Aid clients in walking through the vendor and contract manufacturer process
Work with the contract manufacturer to make any necessary changes
Aid in researching and providing necessary commercial or regulatory
certifications
Project Management
Lead communication with the client regarding all aspects of project progress
Quotes and Proposal Writing with project specs and budget estimates
Generate and manage project time schedule and budget
Lead small (1-2 members ) teams of SDS engineering team members
Generate and assign deliverables
Ensure project deadlines are met
Aid collaborators in unsticking themselves when difficulties arise
Other Duties
Maintain accurate timesheets and expense reports on a daily basis
Assist company management in presenting to new clients and securing new work
Produce competitive proposals and bids for new work
Research new technologies and systems that could help provide a
competitive edge to future work
Research and provide recommendations for supplementary services
(industrial design, PCB layout, etc.)
Continue professional development and learning new skills
