Mechanical Engineering Manager (San Francisco)

Synapse Product Development is seeking one extraordinary Mechanical
Engineering leader for integration with our elite design team in San
Francisco, CA.
This is a unique opportunity to be a foundational member of a
developing engineering team in our new San Francisco office. The
Mechanical Engineering Manager for San Francisco will also be a
strong technical contributor, providing individual technical
contributions to projects in addition to providing oversight to the
Mechanical Engineering team. This position also involves active
participation in growing the San Francisco ME team collaboratively
with the Director of Mechanical Engineering and ensuring the proper
skills and talents are available for executing projects. The
Mechanical Engineering Manager will be responsible for team morale,
training, providing proper development opportunities to grow skill
sets, managing performance and for provide performance evaluations.
In addition, he or she will share in the responsibility of creating,
defining, and introducing best practices and development processes
for the entire Mechanical Engineering Department. This position
reports to the Director of Mechanical Engineering in Synapse's
Seattle office who makes periodic trips to the Synapse's SF office.

What you'll do:
Communicate and collaborate proactively with all stakeholders
Oversee the engagement of team members and their contributions to projects
Recruit top Mechanical Engineering talent to build the strongest possible team
Support Business Development team in new project scoping and client interaction
Provide quality oversight in technical design reviews
Performance management and evaluations incorporating cross-functional
feedback for team members
Contribute technically to program deliverables through reviews and
individual contributions
Qualified applicants will have:

BS or advanced degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
combination of experience and education
8+ years of product design experience (concept to production)
including design for test and manufacturing
Solid technical management experience with at least 2+ years leading
product development teams
Demonstrated experience, ability, and willingness to serve as a
player/coach providing technical leadership for a small team of
mechanical engineers
Experience with design of injection molded components, PCBA
interfaces and mechanical layouts, stamped and formed sheet metal
parts, and general design experience of body-worn high tech consumer devices.
Experience with highly-concurrent, collaborative, multi-disciplinary programs
High degree of comfort with ambiguity in early-phase investigative projects
Advanced proficiency with analytical engineering tools, finite
element analysis, and mathematical modeling/simulation packages
Master-level 3D CAD skills in Solidworks and/or ProEngineer
Proven competence in translating industrial surfaces into designs for
manufacture
Ability to rapidly decipher and prioritize amongst contending
specifications, constraints, and requirements
Gregarious outgoing personality with a strong desire to provide
mentorship within the organization
Strong communication skills and a desire to work in small and large
multidisciplinary teams
Great analytical and organizational skills, coupled with a
well-focused attention to details; ability and commitment to produce
only the best product possible
