SUMMARY

This position will support the R&D effort on
current and next generation patterning
technologies used for the fabrication of
SunPower’s high efficiency solar cells.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Initiate, plan, and manage the development of
solar cell manufacturing equipment. Primary
technology areas are high accuracy printing,
feature/defect detection, motion control, and process control
• Lead machine control software development,
including both real-time and GUI software
• Work with our solar cell R&D team to determine
equipment requirements and design equipment to address these requirements
• Evaluate, design, test and start-up high-volume
and high-throughput manufacturing equipment
• Interface with vendors, contract engineering
and contract manufacturing to develop new tools
that integrate various printing and patterning subsystems
• Design machines that meet the needs of
production engineering, equipment maintenance, safety and facilities

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Electronics and Controls, or equivalent required; MS preferred
• Strong knowledge of machine design and machine control software required
• Knowledge and experience in solar or semiconductor industry preferred
• Knowledge of and at least 7 years direct
experience with development of precision
manufacturing machinery that includes servo motor control.
• Knowledge of and previous experiences with
selection and application of printing/patterning
technologies, alignment and inspection for
precision patterning, and feature/defect detection required
• Previous experience in software architecture
and application in the development/integration of
manufacturing machinery. Knowledge of C++
programming is a must. Expertise in APC feedback is also preferred
• Knowledge and previous experiences with Design
of Experiments (DOE), application of statistics (JMP) preferred
• Experience with cost analysis/modeling, product
life cycle and phase-gate development processes a plus

QUALIFICATIONS

• Hands on skills are essential
• Willing and able to travel, both domestic and
international, at a minimum of 25%
