AirXpanders, Inc. is a Palo Alto-based medical
device startup company with an opening for an EE
to lead electrical hardware and software
development for an active implantable medical
device used for reconstructive plastic
surgery. We are looking for an electrical
engineer who is familiar with both circuit design and programming.

Job Title: Electrical Systems Engineer
Reports To: Director, R&D

Duties / Job Description:
• Sustain the design of implantable and
non-implantable electrical hardware and software
for Active Implantable Medical Devices.
• Create test fixtures for use at
hardware suppliers and internally for use in
production, and for troubleshooting returned product.
• Work with suppliers to resolve
discrepancies and improve acceptance yields.
• Identify and help qualify new components.
• Identify and help evaluate potential
new suppliers for components and electronic sub-assemblies.
• Establish test methods, acceptance
criteria, and test equipment for all stages of
product development, production, and failure analysis.
• Conduct tests, analyze data, and
write reports for design and process verification
and validation testing. Utilize statistical
methods to formulate tests and reach conclusions.
• Build assemblies as needed for
demonstrating concepts or for testing.
• Create manufacturing processes, write
manufacturing process instructions, and train assemblers to these procedures.

Desired Experience:
• Strong background in linear analog
circuit design. Ability to understand transistor
level hardware designs and make design
improvements as necessary to sustain the product design.
• Experience working with FPGAs, such as the Actel IGLOO series.
• Experience with programming
microcontrollers, such as the Microchip PIC family.
• Experience with programming in C and Assembly Language.
• Experience developing electrical test fixtures.

Working Conditions:
• No medical conditions preventing
access to a controlled environment room.

Education / Training:
• M.S. in Electrical Engineering or
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering with
2-5 years of relevant work experience.

Other Requirements:
• Ability to multitask several
activities to support product development,
administration, manufacturing, and other company
activities or other duties as assigned.
