The machines run the work
Galaxy Pharmaceuticals is a 503B outsourcing facility in Albany, New York. We make ready-to-use sterile syringes and IV bags for hospitals and are preparing to start production. We are registered with the FDA as an outsourcing facility, and the New York State Board of Pharmacy approved our registration on 2 September 2026.

We don't own a molecule. We don't have a pipeline. What we sell is manufacturing as a service. We are building it as a plant where the machines run the work. We have designed one batch stop by stop: 66 stops from the receiving doors to the truck. At every stop the machine decides, acts in our applications and checks the result. It runs 51 quality gates, and a person appears only where hands or a signature are needed. You would be the founding engineer who builds it.

What you will build
- Machine accounts: role-scoped agents that act through each system's API and log every action with its evidence
- The gate engine: 51 quality gates as executable, tested rules that nothing can go round
- The device layer: scanners, label printers, balances and scales read directly, sterilizer cycle records, particle counters, a filling pump that runs only when calibration has passed, doors that open only for a qualified person with an open task
- Vision: cameras that read instrument displays, check a work area against its reference photograph, and count units
- The data spine: live building and environmental-monitoring feeds that compute room state every minute and treat a silent sensor as an alarm
- The trail: screens that show the machine working, and a record that follows any decision back to its evidence

You might be right for this if you
- have shipped software people depend on: agents, data systems, or software that touches hardware
- write strong Python and SQL and are at home with APIs, event-driven systems, state machines, cloud and LLM agents
- have worked with at least one of device integration (serial, USB, OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT), controls and interlocks, or computer vision
- design the failure modes before you write the code
- are curious about the physical world and want your code to run a real plant
- document as you go and welcome a second person reviewing your work; in our industry the record is the product

To apply: email your resume and a few lines on the hardest thing you have built (link to code welcome) to dalbir.bains_at_galaxypharma.net<mailto:dalbir.bains_at_galaxypharma.net> with "Stanford - Founding AI Engineer" in the subject.
