Position: Applied Science/Materials Science
internship (Fall 2015, other quarters/semesters also available)

GENERAL ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Walt Disney Imagineering designs and builds
Disney’s theme parks, resorts and cruise ships.
We push the boundaries of the technology behind
the magic, in areas as diverse as special
effects, visual effects, robotics, architecture,
ride systems, theatrics, 3D printing, etc.
In this particular role, you will work on cutting
edge entertainment technology. More specifically,
you will be involved in developing, sourcing and
testing materials and devices for use in our
theme parks and resorts. You will also have the
opportunity to contribute to the design process.
We use an incredibly wide array of materials in
all kinds of demanding applications, so be ready to learn quickly.
Due to the amazing diversity of the work we do,
all relevant majors will be considered.
CORE FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· R&D, testing and sourcing of new materials
· Materials selection and integration:
select appropriate materials for various projects
and help with their integration
· Failure analysis and redesign of parts and processes
· Consultation on general science, engineering and design topics
DESIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:
All or some of the following:
· General understanding of fundamental principles of materials science
· General understanding of materials processing
· General experimental skills, comfortable with hands-on work
· Experience safely working with
chemicals, especially with polymers and solvents.
· Chemistry
· Elastomers (silicone, artificial rubbers) and plastics
· Coatings
· Civil and structural engineering and related materials
· Natural and sustainable materials
· Reliability engineering
· UV degradation, weathering, wear, tribology
· Biology
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S. or
Ph.D. degree in Materials Science, Chemical
Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering,
Civil and Environmental Engineering, Structural
Engineering, Aerospace Engineering,
Bioengineering, Biology, Applied Physics or other relevant field of study
· Demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire
expertise in disparate technical disciplines
· Relevant industry or research experience (internships count)
· Experience with and commitment to serving internal customers
