About Us:
Ploom is an upstart tobacco product company based
in San Francisco. The original idea came out of
the Stanford Design program as part of our
founders' graduate thesis. We are a product
startup intent on bringing rapid change to the
old tobacco industry. The WHO recently
reported that 1 billion people could die from
smoking by the end of this century. Public policy
and other control efforts have met limited
success. Through a deep understanding of consumer
needs, proprietary technologies, and intelligent
business strategy we have developed more
compelling, radically different solutions.

Responsibilities:Â
Reporting to the Director of Product Design, this
position is responsible for the design,
engineering, and validation of electrical systems
for our portable products. Â In addition, this
position will work closely with Global Supply and
our manufacturing partners on evaluating and
selecting components and sub-systems for
high-volume manufacturing processes. The ideal
candidate is someone from a consumer electronics
background who has designed high volume, power
efficient, battery-powered, high quality products.

Responsibilities will include:
*Â Schematic capture
*Â Component selection
*Â Component and subsystem cost estimation
*Â PCB layout design
*Â Prototype bring up and debugging
*Â Functional verification, signal characterization
*Â Working with and managing suppliers/manufacturing partners
*Â Firmware development
*Â Hardware and firmware revision and bug tracking

Experience Requirements:
* Hands-on prototype bring-up, debugging, and functional verification
* Designing for embedded systems
* Rigid and flex PCB design
* Troubleshooting and solving EMI, ESD, and signal & power integrity issues
* Designing products that pass international
regulatory certifications (such as UL, CE, JIS, and KC)
* Battery specification, evaluation, and measurement
* Familiarity with various communication
protocols (USB, SPI, I2C, UART, Bluetooth low energy)
* Firmware development for embedded systems a plus
* Designing and integrating sensors (such as
pressure, flow, and accelerometers) a plus
* Eagle and Labview preferred
* BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
* 3-5 years of experience
* Position will require some international travel
