GE Global Research has been the cornerstone of GE technology since its
founding as the first U.S. industrial research lab in 1900.

Aero-Thermal and Mechanical Systems is a Global organization that
develops technology for the next generation of high efficiency,
environmentally friendly, reliable, and cost-effective products and
services for the Power Generation, Aircraft Engines, Oil & Gas, and
Locomotive businesses. We are a key element of GE's "ecomagination"
initiative making contributions across a multitude of fields including
low-emission diesel engines, quieter aircraft engines, wind energy, and
clean coal. Our teams are based around the world, with offices and labs
in Niskayuna (New York), Munich (Germany), and Bangalore (India). We
seek outstanding technologists with advanced degrees in Physics,
Aerospace, Mechanical, Energy Process, Chemical, and Nuclear
Engineering.

The qualified individual will join the Machinery Mechanics Lab, which is
responsible for performing mechanical design and advanced development in
the area of drive train system components, system dynamics, mechanical
system design, and integration.

Essential responsibilities include the design, analysis of machine
dynamics, machine controls and the integration of machine components
into electro-mechanical system prototype. Responsibilities also include
advanced design and development of mechanical systems such as medical
devices, robotic & articulated systems, rotating machinery and process
control devices.

You will:
* Be responsible for performing advanced design and development of
mechanical systems such as medical devices, robotic & articulated
systems, rotating machinery and process control devices. Applications
include medical equipment, power generation and distribution machinery,
inspection and repair delivery devices and rotating machines.
* Work closely with biologists, chemists and electrical and
mechanical engineers both at GE Global Research and the GE business
units in the development of concepts for mechanical systems and
machines.
* Work closely with the design and development of prototype
hardware and software to validate mechanical systems and devices.
* Communicate with cross-functional teams at GE Global Research
and the GE business units to transition prototype hardware and software
to product teams.
* Ensure the development of critical technologies to enable high
performance machinery working with internal and business engineering
teams as well as outside vendors and research institutes.
* Guide the procurement, build up and testing of prototype
machinery from the concept phase through the validation testing phase
for the evaluation of mechanical, thermal and electrical performance
* Serve as a technical expert with ability to respond to short
term technical issues.
* Build customer relationships and communicate with the customer
on project status.

Qualifications/Requirements
* Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering,
Applied Mechanics with mechatronics, robotics and/or machine design, or
related field of study and control experience or Masters in Mechanical
Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or related field
of study with at least 3 years industrial experience in mechatronics,
robotics and/or machine design and control.
* Working knowledge of analytical and experimental methods for
development of dynamical systems, process systems, devices, rotating
machinery and/or robotics.
* Experience with procurement, buildup and testing of prototype
hardware, instrumentation and software.
* Experience with hands on application of design principles to
develop and test advanced prototypes in the areas of dynamical and
mechatronic systems such as robotic devices, automation systems or
rotating machinery.
* Solid foundation in design, dynamic analysis, and control of
mechanical, mechatronic and/or rotating systems.
* Knowledge of electromechanical, hydraulic and other drives and
actuators.
* Experience in conceiving, developing and carrying out
experiments in component hardware and transferring component level tests
into full scale hardware solutions.
* Experience in analysis and design of machine components; and
motion and process control hardware, software and firmware design.
* Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not
sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in
the future, for this job opening.
