Solum is seeking a versatile and talented engineer who will lead the
design process of the company's field-deployable soil measurement
tools. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on individual contributor
who can effectively interact with a diverse development team of
mechanical engineers, chemists, software developers, measurement
scientists and agronomists. Experience building consumable supplies
and mechanical devices that can withstand harsh environment is a must.
The ideal candidate will be experienced at product development,
self-directed, and passionate about delivering hardware solutions that
will have a meaningful impact on the world.
About Solum
Solum is a Khosla Ventures backed company working to revolutionize
agriculture. We make soil measurement systems that give farmers
immediate, high-density, high-accuracy information on their soil
nutrient needs. Our measurement tools are being used to more
efficiently manage crop inputs, increase crop yields, and dramatically
reduce the environmental impact of farming by reducing fertilizer
runoff.
Requirements:
- 5+ years experience as a hands-on mechanical design team leader
- Experience developing products for contract manufacturing
- Experience designing for harsh environments
- Experience developing a system that integrates electrical, fluidic,
pneumatic and optical components
- Experience designing robotic systems a plus
- Experience with injection mold design process a plus
- Enthusiasm for mentoring
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple
tasks and projects
- Experience with SolidWorks
Responsibilities:
- Design of Solum's robust soil-water processor, fluid handling system
- Design of a custom pneumatic-fluidic system that operates in a harsh
environment
- Design of a integrated precision measurement system
- Hands on rapid prototype development of new systems when required
- Effective integration of prototype outcomes with manufacturing teams
- Injection molded consumable design
