Optical Engineer (contractor): Life Technologies

Job Description: A member of the Optical Engineering team developing
new analytic instruments for molecular biology. Provide optical
system design support to the senior optical engineers in the following ways:
    * Set up ray trace models and light budgets to demonstrate
compliance with specifications.
    * Support mechanical engineer in design of optomechanical
assemblies that establish proper positions and orientations of
optical elements, detectors, and sources of illumination.
    * Assemble, align, activate, and test prototype optical systems
in laboratory environment.
    * Develop optical alignment and other manufacturing procedures.
Requirements
    * B.S. in Optics, Physics, ME, EE, etc and a minimum of 2 years
of experience, M.S. and a minimum of 1 years of experience, or a Ph.D.
    * Matlab, Mathematica, LabVIEW programming skills desirable.
    * Hands-on experience with optical systems in lab and
manufacturing environment essential.
    * Ability to use Solidworks a plus.
    * Knowledge of optical modeling software packages such as ZEMAX,
Code V, or OSLO. Familiarity with ASAP, Light Tools, OptiCAD or
equivalent desirable but not required.
    * Excellent communication, documentation and problem-solving skills.
